Teaching Methods

Savannah incorporates multiple teaching techniques in her studio. One of her favorites is the Suzuki Method. This method is based on legendary Japanese violinist, educator, philosopher and humanitarian Shinichi Suzuki. Suzuki believed that every child has the capability to learn music. Some staples of his method are regular listening to the repertoire to develop the musical ear, repetition and review, memorization, and participation in group lessons so children can learn from one another and develop ensemble skills. This method builds skill systematically but also reviews previous material to continually apply new techniques and improve. Savannah herself learned from the Suzuki Method  which helped her to build a strong foundation and excel at playing.

Savannah's teaching philosophy is also centered around the knowledge that every person learns differently. She caters her teaching to the individual’s primary learning style because every student can learn music if it is taught in a way that works for them. Classrooms usually cater to verbal or logical/mathematical styles of learning which do not always fit a student’s learning style. In her studio, Savannah begins by identifying a student's primary learning style and using that in her teaching to help them develop musically.

Savannah is also highly inspired by one of the country’s leading violinists and pedagogues Nicola Benedetti who emphasizes the inner workings and the mechanics of how music is made as well as using the correct playing posture that prevents tension and helps prevent injury. Savannah’s greatest goal as a teacher is to help her students reach their fullest musical potential and become the best version of themselves.
